2017 PAL Summer Track and Field

1st day of practice is Monday, June 19th.  - We DO NOT CALL OR EMAIL to confirm your registration. If you wait for a call – you will miss practice – Just show up ready to run!

Stockton Community Track Meet Schedule:

* Thursday, July TBD

Location: Absegami High School track and field
Dates: June 19th - August 3rd Monday and Thursday evenings
In July - some Thursdays will be – TRACK MEETS – AT Stockton College!!! (Dates and other information to be announced)
Times: Practice 6:30-8:30pm – Meets – Start at 6:00pm until completed
Notes: Practice Rain or Shine – unless LIGHTENING – no calls or emails for cancellations – use your own judgment on heat or rain – if you want to run – show up we’ll be there!
Ages: Entering 2nd grade in the fall – thru high school (for younger siblings contact the program director)
What to wear: Dress like you would for gym class. Running shoes are preferred but not required. IF you have track spikes you may bring them for the actual time on t the track but come dressed with running shoes for the “rest” of the practice. You will be running and running in HOT weather so light, loose clothes are recommended. Lastly, bring LOTS of WATER!!
Cost: $25
You can sign up ANY time including during the season !- if you miss any dates due to other obligations or just missed the start – we welcome late comers (T-shirts not guaranteed for late sign ups)

Program Description:

  • Instruction, education and development of the fundamentals of track and field for all levels of skill and interest. Serious fun and fitness for the younger athletes and those new to the sport, as well as serious training and teaching for those looking to excel in this sport or those cross training for another.
  • Focus on “summer conditioning” and building up endurance for fall sports such soccer, football and cross-country.
  • Additional Emphasis on SAQ (Speed, Agility and Quickness) designed for athletes looking gain an edge in their primary sport!
  • Experienced coaches including members of the Absegami High School track and field team and staff.
  • VOLUNTEER “coaches” are welcomed, encouraged and much needed – all you need is enthusiasm and a love of children… we’ll show you the rest and put you to good use – it will be the best 4 hours of your week!!!!. Contact Steve McLaughlin
  • Itinerary includes:

1.Regular stretching, training and strength and conditioning routines.
2.Small group and individual instruction and teaching
3.Goal setting and continued performance measurement and tracking with emphasis on teamwork, improvement and hard work.
4.Year end open meets at Richard Stockton College

Typical
practice session: 6:30-7:00 Team warm-up, team stretching and team form and technique work
7:00-8:30 “Station work” three 30 minute stations (Breakdown into groups by age, gender and ability).

  • Station one: road work (run through trails and/or around campus followed by post run cool down/stretching routine)

  • Station two: Speed, Agility & Quickness (ladders, banana hurdles, cones, “games” and ropes on the infield)

  • Station three: track work

    1. Team relays

    2. Sprint training, starts, strength work

    3. Interval workouts (100m, 200m, 400m, 200m, 100m)

7:00-8:30 Select individuals (veterans of the program or athletes with the necessary aptitude) will be “small group” trained in hurdles and throwing events and some distance work.

Steve McLaughlin, the Program Director, is no newcomer to track and field. Steve is an Absegami graduate and was a New Jersey High School State Champ in 800m and 1600m events. He was lucky enough to have earned a track & cross country scholarship to the University of Notre Dame.
