Winter 2025/2026 Galloway PAL High School Volleyball

December 5, 2025

Galloway PAL volleyball begins tonight, Friday, December 5th at 7:30pm for our High School girls group.  Please bring your  athletes to Galloway Township Middle School (GTMS) a few minutes before 7:30pm, dressed and ready to begin training.    The address for GTMS is 100 S. Reeds Road, Galloway, NJ and you pass two other schools before you get to GTMS at the very end of Reeds Road.  The gym entrance is on the left side of the building as you are driving in.

Tee shirts, sweats or volleyball spandex (girls) and gym shoes are required.  Knee pads are recommended; an example of the type of kneepad used for volleyball is below:

Jewelry is not allowed for safety reasons so have your kids leave their earrings, necklaces, watches, wrist bands, etc. at home.  Also, have them bring a water bottle that closes – not the kind with the straw sticking out – and there is a filling station outside the gym in the hallway.  Other than water, no food or drink is allowed in the gym.

Drop your athlete off in the GTMS gym a few minutes before 7:30pm and you can return to pick them up promptly at 9:15.  They will play on Fridays when the school is open until mid- March.  We are off for Winter Break, MLK and Presidents Day and a schedule will be posted on the www.gallowaypal.org  website at this location:

https://www.gallowaypal.org/Default.aspx?tabid=1348595

We spend the first two sessions making up the teams and giving each some practice time.  After that, it's all scheduled league play until the last week when it's a tournament.

There is very little spectator room at GTMS, so if you are able to drop your athlete off and come back to get them promptly at 9:15, it would be appreciated.

Regards,

Phil Kening

Happy New Year!  Galloway PAL High School begins this Friday at GTMS at 7:30pm and the girls must be picked up between 9:15 and 9:30pm.   This webpage has the team rosters and the schedule for this winter's HS PAL Volleyball League as well as information about how it will be run.  Everything that you need to know is on this page.  We have 70 girls placed on 7 teams.  The girls had input into which team they were put on before the winter break, and it is difficult to make changes at this point.  Carpool reasons are not a major concern because the girls mostly have the same day and time schedule - so they can ride together regardless of which team they are on.

Format
Each week, 6 of the teams will be scheduled to play, and 1 team will have a bye (week off).  There will be 7 weeks of league play, so each team will have 1 bye week.  The 8th week will be a playoff with the top 6 teams qualifying and the last place team being eliminated.

The weekly league play will be done in a tri-match format with each team playing one of the other two teams on their court that night.  The team that is off for the match will be expected to "work" by keeping score and being line judges while the other 2 teams play.  Each match will consist of 2 sets to 21 points, or 35 minutes, whichever comes first.

Girls are expected to come on time, and ready to warm up and play promptly at 7:30.

Congratulations to our 2023 girl's high school champions, Oakcrest 2 (team 5) team, who beat the runner-up Absegami (Team 1) team 2 - 1 in a tough, three set final.  Thank you to the 70 girls who participated  on our 7 teams this year and made for some fun Friday nights.  I'd also like to thank our two referees, Ariana and Raniyah Torres, who did a great job of running the matches.

Congratulations to Hitting Hedgehogs, who took first place in our championship tournament last Friday.  Also, thank you to Ariana Torres and Isabelle "Sab" Felix for helping me run the league this winter.   Shout out to Absegami, ACIT, Cedar Creek, EHT, Lower Township, Mainland and Oakcrest girls from our area high schools who participated and made it so much fun.
